A Couple of Rumors and One Truth About ‘MAN OF STEEL’

Okay, let’s get straight to the rumor mill, as that’s what’s always has the more interesting news, even though they’re just rumors that may or may not have some credibility to them.

RUMOR #1:  Jimmy Olsen is a female named Jenny Olsen, via /Film.

While Henry Cavill looks like a textbook Clark Kent, the new Jimmy Olsen may not be at all like the Jimmy Olsens we’ve seen in the past. In fact, he might not be Jimmy Olsen at all. Instead, a new rumor making the rounds suggests that Man of Steel has turned Jimmy Olsen into Jenny Olsen, with actress Rebecca Buller in the role. Hit the jump to keep reading.

Perry White (Laurence Fishburne) and Jenny Olsen (Rebecca Buller) run for cover

Comic Book Movie noticed that IMDb lists Buller as playing a character named “Jenny Olsen,” with no listing for Jimmy Olsen in sight. IMDb isn’t always 100% accurate, but they get things right more often than not. Supporting this theory is a scene from the latest trailer, which shows Buller running away from an explosion with Laurence Fishburne, who plays Perry White. If this woman isn’t Man of Steel‘s Jimmy Olsen replacement, she seems at least to be a Daily Planet staffer of some sort.

That’s pretty interesting, although, I don’t really care either way.  Let’s be honest, the character could’ve easily been a girl in the comics, except for the fact that when Superman was created, it wasn’t a common thing for a female character to play someone that wasn’t a love interest or some kind of parental figure.

RUMOR #2: More bad guys from Krypton will appear, via ScreenRant.

After LEGO’s toy lines previously leaked the presumed antagonists of Man of Steel, the newest sets displayed at the 2013 London Toy Fair this week haven’t disappointed. As reported by BrickHeroes, the name and contents of one toy set in particular should catch the attention of fans:

Superman 76003 – Battle of Smallville : General Zod, Colonel Hardy, Tor-An, Superman and Faora

While seemingly confirming a major action setpiece in Kansas, the new details also involve a previously unrevealed character: Tor-An. In the comic books, Tor-An was a trusted soldier of General Zod (played by Michael Shannon in the movie) who escaped the planet’s destruction and was sent to Earth. Disguised as CEO David Carter (among others), Tor-An acted as a sleeper agent for Zod’s Kryptonian forces, doing whatever he could to get Superman off his game.

[Update: ComicBook.com cites an anonymous source claiming Tor-An will be appearing in Man of Steel, played by actor and stuntman Richard Cetrone (Sucker Punch), along with another Kryptonian – Dev-Em, an escaped criminal played by Revard Dufresne (Sucker Punch). We’ll update as the rumors are either substantiated or denied.]

Well, this is certainly exciting news, although we can’t accept any bit of it as official, so don’t get ahead of yourselves people.  As you should already know, the internet is full of lies.  But I know we as fans can’t help but imagine the possibilities.

And finally, the TRUTH, via ComingSoon.net:

The film has received a PG-13 rating “for intense sequences of sci-fi violence, action and destruction, and for some language.”

See, told you the rumors are more interesting.
