Production will begin later this spring on Anthony and Joe Russo‘s ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, and while there were rumors that the sequel would be shooting in Europe like the first film, we’ve learned that stages are already being built at Raleigh Manhattan Beach Studios in Los Angeles. This isn’t a major surprise considering ‘Iron Man’, ‘Iron Man 2’, and ‘Thor’ all shot at Raleigh in addition to other locations. ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ will probably still do some shooting in Europe, and we already know that some filming will be done in Cleveland and New Mexico.
Here’s a brief recap of what we know so far:
According to [Anthony] Mackie, who plays fellow superhero Falcon, filming is set to begin on April 1st. He added that his character will be able to fly like in the comic books.
[Frank] Grillo is playing Crossbones, a villain. The Winter Soldier is also probably a villain, although I assume that will change over the course of the movie since that’s how his character went in the comics.
Toby Jones will return, but his character will likely appear in flashbacks.
Hayley Atwell won’t be coming back [to play Peggy Carter], and the film still doesn’t have a female lead. Actresses rumored for the role include Alison Brie, Emilia Clarke, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Felicity Jones, Anna Kendrick, and Imogen Poots.
Presumably, the female lead for the sequel would most likely be Peggy Carter’s younger sister/(retconned) niece Sharon Carter.
