Earlier today, the official ‘Beautiful Creatures’ Movie site hosted a Twitter Chat for actor Alden Ehrenreich, who plays Ethan Wate in the film. He answered a bunch of questions from fans, and here below are most of the questions answered by Alden. Since all of Alden’s answers were more than one tweet, I took them out of Twitter box form, combined them, and put them in green (the questions are still in the Twitter box form). Enjoy!
RT @chelyanhaley: You’ve said that you were drawn to Ethan. What, specifically, do you think you think drew you in?#AskAlden
— Beautiful Creatures (@RavenwoodManor) February 1, 2013
Ethan has a restlessness and a desire to get something more out of the world than that which was given to him.I appreciated that determination he had to get out of town and stay upbeat despite the pressures and grief he was experiencing
RT @mstohl: #AskAlden WHY ARE YOU SO AWESOME?!?!?! #BeautifulCreatures
— Beautiful Creatures (@RavenwoodManor) February 1, 2013
Lots of genetic tampering.
RT @josh_sensei: @ravenwoodmanor what was it like working with such a talented cast? #AskAlden
— Beautiful Creatures (@RavenwoodManor) February 1, 2013
The opportunity to work with people like Jeremy, Emma, VIola, and Emmy was so incredible When you’re working with someone of that caliber of talent, they bring you to another level and keep you on your toes in the scenes Although I had food poisoning the first day working with VIola and was close to vomitting on her.
RT @danielleljones: @ravenwoodmanor what was your favorite scene to film? #AskAlden
— Beautiful Creatures (@RavenwoodManor) February 1, 2013
I liked doing the snow scene (you’ll see) because it was one of many scenes where Alice and I had the opportunity to do relaxed dialogue scenes and play around. The scenes that were the most playful were the most enjoyable scenes for me.
RT @mariajuliasaid: @ravenwoodmanor if you could choose, would you be a dark caster, light caster or an incubus? #AskAlden
— Beautiful Creatures (@RavenwoodManor) February 1, 2013
If I had the power to choose, I think I would choose to have a perfect balance of dark and light. That, to me, is the most important thing, to be able to incorporate all the sides of your personality so they are not in conflict with each other.
RT @ciara_kelly: @ravenwoodmanor who’s your favourite character other than Ethan? #askalden
— Beautiful Creatures (@RavenwoodManor) February 1, 2013
My other favorite character would probably be Macon, because he has such a dignified and other worldy quality to him, and also a subtle mischievious quality underneath the refined veneer
RT @duchanned: @ravenwoodmanor #AskAlden how was it working with alice??
— Beautiful Creatures (@RavenwoodManor) February 1, 2013
Alice and I from the beginning wanted to make this film as funny, offbeat, and unusual as possible. Because we both knew that about each other we got along really well from the minute we met and had a lot of fun shooting the scenes together, which Richard allowed us to play around in as much as we wanted and I think you see that onscreen.
RT @vintagevampyre: @ravenwoodmanor #AskAlden: What did you find the most endearing of Ethan & Lena’s relationship? #BeautifulCreatures
— Beautiful Creatures (@RavenwoodManor) February 1, 2013
I liked that even through their struggles and frustrations, they always stayed together and fought through their problems for the sake of their love
RT @elizabethrialdi: @ravenwoodmanor #AskAlden what was your favorite thing about this movie, and what should we look forward too?
— Beautiful Creatures (@RavenwoodManor) February 1, 2013
My favorite thing about the movie is that although it’s a story with some phenomenal spectacle in it, its rooted in the stories of a few real people with real struggles and I think what you can look forward to is a lot of unexpected and offbeat humor Funny things you wouldn’t expect similar to when I just accidentally propositioned a french fan because I didn’t know what the words to that song meant
RT @rowlingtribute: @ravenwoodmanor What kind of advice did @mstohl and @kamigarcia about playing Ethan? #AskAlden
— Beautiful Creatures (@RavenwoodManor) February 1, 2013
What I liked that the authors told me is that when they looked at some of the male characters in the YA genre, they often treated the female characters coolly and indifferently and they wanted to show that guys can be literate, courteous, and intelligent also
RT @beautiful_ch4os: @ravenwoodmanor do you feel pressured to be everyone’s ideal Ethan? #AskAlden
— Beautiful Creatures (@RavenwoodManor) February 1, 2013
Everybody’s connection to this book is so personal it would be impossible to satisfy everyone’s imagination but I hope that I capture some of the essence of the character for everyone and you feel that it’s still the same story. I believe it is.
RT @geesw: #askalden why do you insist on ruining real men for us? Also, did you have to go through any physical changes for the part?
— Beautiful Creatures (@RavenwoodManor) February 1, 2013
Trust me, I’m probably not as great as you think I am. The main physical change is that while shooting a stabbed myself in the hand.
RT @themanonbnd: Favourite quote of the books? #AskAlden
— Beautiful Creatures (@RavenwoodManor) February 1, 2013
My favorite quote from the book is the title itself because it refers not to the beautiful casters, but to mortals, who are beautiful because they have faith without evidence, and a foolish hopefulness in something better even when things are difficult
