I’ve been neglectful of putting up some information on S.H.I.E.L.D. because, well, I’m just waiting for the actual pilot, and it’s just lollygagging time for the fans at this point.  However, let’s just see what good ol’ Joss has to say about the whole thing. 

“I’m excited about the show because it’s a very hopeful show… It’s not about murder, and it’s not about crime, and it’s not people looking into their own belly buttons. It’s about people who are trying to help each other, and that’s one of the things I loved about comic books. They had costumes and the villains were cool [but] they stood for something, and I like doing a show that does that.”

Joss does understand that although the S.H.I.E.L.D. Initiative is a part of the Avengers world, it can stand on its own as a Marvel series: 

“We’re trying very hard to be true to [Marvel’s] ethos and also to the structure of their universe… So it is definitely a Marvel show.”

Can we expect any guest drop-ins from the Marvel movies?  Aside form Clark Gregg being resurrected somehow to play Agent Phil Coulson again, not much can be said about anyone else from the movie franchise appearing:

That said, Whedon says to expect “not a ton” of familiar faces from the Marvel-verse, though “there’s a little bit of talk of that” for any possible future the project has in primetime. “Right now, I want to involve people in the characters that we’ve created for the show,” Whedon said, “and then we’ll worry about [the other stuff].”

Knowing how super busy Joss has been, not only with the Avengers 2, but with his own promoting of his version of Much Ado About Nothing, what did Joss think about going back to the small screen and working on the S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot:  

“That was fun to do, but again, too much work. The idea of the Little Guy is something that I am very fierce about, and there has never been a better Little Guy than Clark Gregg. That intrigued me, this world around the superhero community. It’s the people whose shop windows get blown up when the Destroyer shows up. It’s the more intimate stories that belong on television that we can really tap into the visual style and ethos, and even some of the mythology, of the Marvel movies. I think we’ve put together another really great ensemble headed by Clark. And how much it’s actually seeding or hinting or reacting to what’s going on in the movies is something we’ll let play out as we go. For me the most important thing is that people fall in love with it on its own merits, rather than constantly asking, “Is there gonna be an Avenger?” Well, there’s not gonna be a Hulk because that guy’s too expensive.

“I will be as involved as I can be – mostly on a story level. On the TV show I can say, “No, do it my way.” I’m just trying to keep it exciting and meaningful and surprising.”
