Dane Dehaan On the Script
“It’s awesome. It really is. It’s human and it’s deep and it’s also epic and still a huge superhero movie. But it all makes sense and it all comes from very human elements and I think people are really going to love it.”
Dane Dehaan Expands Further on His Character and More
On the Osborn father/son relationship:
“First of all, ‘Chronicle’ was about a kid with an abusive father, ‘Place Beyond the Pines’ is about a kid who doesn’t know who his father is, and they’re very different relationships. Obviously with Harry Osborn, the privilege of it is another dynamic. The relationship Harry has with Norman is a different dynamic. Every son has a relationship with their father, whether that father is there or not, and that always has an effect on the person whether they admit it or not. There’s a lot of different ways those relationships are complicated.”
It’s very much the same kind of training and stuff – it’s just fancier and more available because there’s more money, in the end. But they both have stunts.
Honestly I don’t know exactly what I’ll be doing as far as stunts and stuff… But I’ve been training really hard to do whatever they need me to do.
On Being a Non-Fan
I don’t think you have to be a fan of something to do the job. I think ultimately it’s important that I’m familiar with past takes on the Osborn story, more for like common, know-it-all ’cause it’s stuff I should know. My job as an actor is the same job, whether it’s a comic book movie or a gritty Derek Cianfrance drama, or a ‘Chronicle,’ or a ‘Lawless,’ which is to take a character and, for lack of better word, to breathe life into it. I’m a fan of acting!
The Wall Street Journal Excerpts on Filming
The production sprawls over about 300,000 square feet at four facilities in Long Island and Brooklyn.
The movie began shooting Feb. 1 and will take 151 days to shoot, but just a few dozen will take place on locations in the city and upstate. They will spend one day filming in the real Times Square, but 50 to 65 days shooting on Long Island.
The film is being shot at Marcy Armory in Brooklyn, as well as at Long Island’s Gold Coast Studios and Grumman Studios, both in Bethpage.
The set hints at life beyond high school, including a Columbia University dormitory room that appears to be outfitted for female freshman, with sparkly sneakers and film-noir posters.
To recreate the effect of Times Square’s flashing lights, the producers brought in 16 cranes with lights and green screens. But at least one of the film’s 40 sets thrusts back to an earlier time. The subway station the crew constructed in about six weeks features skylights and Art Deco columns that most closely resembled a station under City Hall that closed in 1945.
Spiderman will go to Rochester to film a chase scene because speed laws upstate aren’t as restrictive as New York City’s.
Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane
Shown are pictures of Emma Stone‘s Gwen and Shailene Woodley‘s Mary Jane meeting for the first time on screen.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Takes Over New York City
The Gov. says the production “could help generate new jobs and economic activity both upstate and downstate.” Gary Martin, exec at Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group, agrees, saying the tax incentive program lured them to the state. “Plain and simple, this is a win-win for the state and our production,” he says.
The production is so large that it will use space at two separate stage facilities on Long Island, Grumman Studios and Gold Coast Studios, as well as the Marcy Armory in Brooklyn. It expects to shoot for 150 days, including 50 days in Bethpage and 10 to 15 days in Rochester. Next, they will be scouting locations in Rochester for scenes, one of which will be a car chase.
Here’s an even more positive spin on filming in the Big Apple:

Shailene Woodley Done With Shooting
MJ reportedly has “only a very small part” in the middle part, but “blossoms into an integral lead” for the third one. So it shouldn’t be a big surprise that Woodley’s part of the movie was finished so quickly.
