THE X-FILES To Return with Original Duo and Creator

Mulder and Scully are back!

The X-Files was my first influence into writing fan fiction, and I think those stories are still around somewere in the interverse.  Anyway, it’s been talked about for a long time, and it seems that Fox has decided that it was time to actually do something about it.  They’ve gotten Chris Carter, David Duchovny, and Gillian Anderson back, which really is the only way to bring back The X-Files.  Sorry, other peeps that were in the later seasons that I can’t even remember your names, but it was always about Mulder and Scully.

“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” said Carter. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

Yeah, six episodes.  Well, I guess that’s something.  They just better be really good episodes!

The X-Files ran for about 10 seasons, but those last 3 really didn’t count for much since David Duchovny took his exit around season 7.  They tried to make it work, bringing in two new FBI agents into the fold, but the show was really losing its steam (as you can tell, I was one of them who lost interest.)  Then they had the movies, but unfortunately, it didn’t do as well as they’d hoped.

You could say that The X-Files was what influenced a lot of the popular shows today in pushing the boundaries of content on TV, but it was just also a really standout series.  I don’t know if they’ll be able to stand out as much now on network television, what with cable shows like The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad having pushed the boundaries of what to show on the small screen, with even some other network shows, such as Hannibal (which Gillian Anderson appeared in as well.)  But then again, maybe it’s time to see what Carter can do if given more to push.

I was such an X-Phile when it first came out, and I still have some collectibles, of course. I’m excited for this, but at the same time, I wonder if it’s going to have the same appeal as it did during its original run. What do you think?
